Mission, Vision and Values
The American Legion is founded on a lifelong promise made by service members to protect and strengthen the United States. That promise begins with enlistment, is forged through military training and discipline, and continues after discharge as veterans serve their communities, states, and nation.
In times of crisis, The American Legion provides vital assistance. It mentors young people, supports veterans seeking education, careers, health care, and stable housing, and offers steadfast backing to active-duty, Guard, and Reserve personnel. Legionnaires understand the cost of freedom and work tirelessly to honor fallen heroes, preserve their memories, and promote respect for the flag and the ideals it represents.
The American Legion welcomes all veterans—without rank or prejudice—united by a shared purpose: to strengthen America through service, compassion, and proven programs that have endured for more than a century.
Mission:
To enhance the well-being of America’s veterans, their families, our military, and our communities through devotion to mutual helpfulness.
